Jullie zijn een paranormaal onderzoeksbureau, gevestigd in Zweden ca. 1880. Jullie team is onderdeel van de Europese tak van “The Society”, een groep die al sinds de 16e eeuw helpt bij het oplossen van problemen met folkloristische wezens die jullie “Vaesen” noemen. De kennis van het bestaan van Vaesen is bij de gewone burger vaak niet aanwezig, gewoonweg omdat de meeste mensen ze niet kunnen zien. Desondanks weet men jullie te vinden bij curieuze gebeurtenissen en onopgeloste mysteries. Jullie zien overigens dondersgoed wat voor vreemde creaturen er op deze aardbol rondlopen en hoe voorzichtig je met hen om moet gaan! Meestal blijken jullie avonturen dan ook daarmee gemoeid te zijn… Deze keer, komt jullie groep per ongeluk terecht in de Vikingtijd. Description Game:

De poort staat daar als een zwijgende rechter, massief en onontkoombaar, met woorden die zwaarder wegen dan steen. Ik lees ze, maar ze lijken zich al los te maken van mijn begrip, alsof betekenis hier niet bedoeld is om vast te houden. Mijn eerste stap voelt niet als een keuze, maar eerder als een verschuiving in de werkelijkheid zelf.

Achter mij vervaagt iets. Namen, gezichten, de reden waarom ik hier kwam; ze lossen op als krijt in de regen. Eerst verdwijnen de details, dan de lijnen, en uiteindelijk zelfs het besef dat er ooit iets was om te verliezen. Mijn gedachten worden korter en stiller. De tijd lijkt zich niet langer uit te strekken, maar in te krimpen.

De weg vooruit is vaag en toch dwingend. Geluiden komen gedempt, alsof ze door lagen van wol worden gefilterd. Mist kruipt langzaam omhoog, eerst langs mijn voeten, dan hoger, tot ze alles opslokt. Wat overblijft is beweging zonder herinnering, een voortgaan zonder verleden.
